IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Match 7, How can Rajasthan Royals bounce back with a win over Delhi Capitals?
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals (RR) fell agonizingly short of winning their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season as they went down by 4 runs in a chase of 222. On a day when the overseas stars failed to come good, the skipper Sanju Samson led from the front with a knock for the ages. Despite his 119 in just 63 balls, he couldn’t take his side home as he holed out off the last ball.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) on the other hand, had a smooth sailing in their opening fixture as they got past Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thanks to an excellent batting display. Their openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan came good and did not allow the opposition bowlers to settle which helped ease past them. Today, RR and DC will meet with both sides wanting nothing but a win.
On that note, we take a look at how RR can defeat DC today.
IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Key for RR #1: Prize out openers early
The DC openers looked in imperious touch in their previous match. Prithvi Shaw was his vintage self, showing people why he was so highly rated. Shikhar Dhawan on the other hand is a proven performer and he came up with yet another one of his trademark brisk knocks.
If the DC openers get going yet again, it would be extremely difficult for RR to stop them. The key would thus, be to prize out the openers early. An early wicket or two would go a long way in helping restrict the opposition. The likes of Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman and Chetan Sakariya would thus, look for wickets in the Powerplay.
IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Key for RR #1: Overseas stars should contribute
RR were dealt a huge blow two days ago when their ace all-rounder Ben Stokes was ruled out of the tournament with a suspected broken hand. In his absence, RR might look to David Miller or Liam Livingstone to replace him. Despite, the bench strength, the loss of Stokes would have a huge effect on the side.
In his absence and unlike in the previous match where all of the four overseas players were below-par, RR would want them to contribute more this time around. The likes of Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman would be expected to pick up more wickets while staying economical. A lot would also hinge on Jos Buttler who could be promoted up the order to open the innings.
