Eoin Morgan took over the captaincy role for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after Dinesh Karthik stepped down last year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman handed over the leadership responsibility to Morgan to focus on his batting.

The KKR skipper said that it has been a seamless transition since he has taken over the captaincy role from Karthik. He further credited KKR support staff members, Brendon McCullum and Abhishek Nayar for the way they ensured that there was no communication gap among the players.

“I was delighted to be taken on board, but given that I have captained a lot over the years, it’s been indeed a seamless transition,” Morgan said in a video posted on the KKR website.

“Baz (McCullum) and Abhishek Nayar had done such an incredible job of communicating to the players. Their relationship with DK and myself and even the senior players was so good that the transition was quite seamless and I actually didn’t give it a great deal of thought,” he added.

‘Karthik didn’t take an emotional decision’: Morgan

The current KKR captain mentioned that stepping down from captaincy wasn’t an emotional decision by DK. He added that Karthik was very logical and selfless on his part while making this choice.

“It wasn’t an emotional decision. He (Karthik) was actually very logical and selfless from his point of view and to show the courage to step down in the middle of the competition based on (what) you think is better for the team, is incredibly courageous,” said Morgan.

The Knight Riders made a decent start to their IPL 2021 campaign with one victory and a defeat after playing two matches. They are now scheduled to lock horns with the table-toppers Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 18 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
