IPL 2021: “He is not worth the price” – Kevin Pietersen says Chris Morris went for too much money at the auction

Chris Morris has not particular lit up any Indian Premier League (IPL) season so far. The South African all-rounder has been around right from 2013, but hasn’t been able to make a name for himself as one of the best in the business. In the 74 matches that he has played in the IPL, he has picked up a total of 85 wickets while striking at 157 with the bat at an average of 24 which are good figures.
Despite his obvious talent, it was still a surprise when he became the most expensive player in IPL history as he was bought for Rs. 16.25 crore by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) after being released after IPL 2020 by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). At such a high price, the pressure was huge on Morris to deliver this year. So far, he has done a decent job by picking up 5 wickets and also playing a key role in RR’s only win.
Kevin Pietersen speaks on Chris Morris’ auction price
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen spoke to Star Sports today about Chris Morris and said, “This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest. I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him. He’s not a first choice for the South African side.”
“I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talk about him. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver. I mean this with the greatest deal of respect. There’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run in for two games. And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes,” Pietersen further added.
RR’s next match is against Kolkata Knight Riders tomorrow.
