IPL 2021: KKR vs RCB match postponed after several players fall ill
Kolkata Knight Riders
Today’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been postponed after several players from the former side fell ill. The match was set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad today, but two positive tests in the camp has led to the match and the tournament being in doubt now.
The IPL has been taking place amidst strict protocols and bio-bubble restrictions in a caravan format. After legs in Mumbai and Chennai, the tournament shifted to Ahmedabad and Delhi. There were no reported cases of COVID-19 in any of the teams even as the pandemic wreaked havoc around India, due to the bubble. Now, a scare has occurred and it remains to be seen as to the status of today’s match and the tournament.
Huge COVID-19 scare in Kolkata Knight Riders camp
According to Australian press The Age, ‘several’ players have fallen ill. They reported, “Several personnel within the KKR camp – which features Australian superstar Pat Cummins – are unwell, and that their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, scheduled for Monday night AEST, is in doubt.“
This is now a serious concern for the tournament and if a case of breach of bio-bubble is found, it could be curtains for hopes of conducting the rest of the IPL. Today’s match between KKR and RCB will not take place today and is set to be rescheduled for a later date.
The players who have tested positive for the virus are Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier which has been confirmed by IPL.
