Deepak Chahar was the hero for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) as he ripped through the side’s top-order with an excellent display of swing bowling in the Powerplay. The 28-year-old picked up four wickets and all four were key ones with him accounting for Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda to finish with figures of 4/13.

Thanks to his spell, CSK were able to restrict to a score of just 106/8 with Shahrukh Khan played a lone hand with a 47-run knock. In the chase, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early, but Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali came up with an assured partnership as the former was the anchor and the latter, the aggressor. The target was reached in 15.4 overs and CSK jumped to second in the table.

Deepak Chahar was adjudged the Man of the Match for his spell and he spoke at the presentation saying, “I think Mayank’s wicket I enjoyed the most – a dream ball for a bowler to swing and hit top of off stump. You want to pitch it close to middle and then move to hit top of off. First over, when the catch went to Ruturaj, it was a quick one, only Jaddu could’ve taken that so I was like he should’ve been there.”

Speaking further of Ravindra Jadeja‘s fielding display, he said, “He’s one of the best in the world, has taken so many catches off my bowling. I want 11 Jaddus on the field.”

Speaking of his role and responsibility, Chahar said, “I am always the one who starts the tone for the match. If I take a wicket or bowl a maiden over then obviously we can take the momentum. It’s a big responsibility I’ve been having since the last four years and Mahi bhai has shown faith in me. Hopefully I can deliver in some more matches. As a bowler my plan is to bowl dots if I don’t take wickets. The bowlers from the other end will also be able to take wickets.”

CSK’s next match will be against Rajasthan Royals on the 19th of April.
