Mayank Agarwal
Punjab Kings (PBKS) slumped to their fifth defeat of the season today as they fell against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a crushing loss for the side who were already dealt a huge blow beforehand of their captain and ace batsman KL Rahul set to miss out a major part of the remainder of the season, if not the entire season due to acute appendicitis.
The stand-in captain Mayank Agarwal who came back in to the side after recovering from an injury was the sole shining spark for the side as he struck a stunning unbeaten 99-run knock in just 58 balls. With none of the other batters contributing, PBKS could reach only 166 runs and the target was chased down in just 17.4 overs with Shikhar Dhawan anchoring the chase to perfection, with some excellent support from the other end.
‘It was my day with the bat’ – Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal was awarded the Man of the Match for his knock despite it coming in a losing cause. Speaking about the same he said, “One batsman had to bat through and that was the plan, it was my day and tried to get as many as we can but didn’t get as many in the middle overs but at least ended well.“
Speaking of his side’s performance, he said, “Would’ve liked two points but we were ten short on that wicket and for the kind of PowerPlay they had, we had to really scramble there. We have to shut this off and turn up next game and put our best foot forward, figure ways how to get those two points. Kudos to Harpreet, the way he turned and also hit a crucial boundary, he’s bowling exceedingly well. It’s about doing well as a unit, hopefully we will doing well next game.“
On KL Rahul, Mayank said, “He’s going for a surgery, hopefully he should be back.”
PBKS’ next match is against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on the 6th of May.
