IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals break winless streak against Mumbai Indians with six-wicket win
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals (DC) secured victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to notch up their third win of the season. Playing in Chennai for the first time after their Mumbai leg came to an end, DC adopted excellently well to the conditions to clinch a crucial victory and exact revenge for the 4-0 head-to-head record in matches during the 2020 edition of the IPL.
Earlier, MI had won the toss and opted to bat first. The defending champions decided to go with just three overseas players on the night as they brought in an extra spinning option in Jayant Yadav instead of Adam Milne. DC on the other hand, decided to change their team combination by bringing in Shimron Hetmyer for Chris Woakes and Amit Mishra for Lukman Meriwala.
Amit Mishra inspires DC to victory
In the first innings, Quinton de Kock‘s struggles continued as he fell cheaply to Marcus Stoinis. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav however, kept the scoreboard ticking and seemed to have laid down an excellent platform. However, Amit Mishra showed why he is still one of the best in the business by removing the entire MI middle-order to put DC well and truly on top. It was some useful runs from Ishan Kishan and Jayant Yadav that helped MI to 137/9 in the end.
In the chase of a modest total, Prithvi Shaw disappointed by getting out early to Jayant Yadav. However, Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith anchored the innings and kept nicking the singles and doubles. After the latter’s dismissal, Dhawan joined Lalit Yadav and the duo kept scoring runs patiently. After Dhawan’s dismissal, Rishabh Pant followed him to the pavilion soon as well. Lalit and Shimron Hetmyer then knocked down the runs although the match went till the last over.
