MS Dhoni uncharacteristically dived full length to reach the crease to save himself from a potential run-out during Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mumbai. It is noteworthy that in a recent interview as part of an advertisement with Gulf Oil, Dhoni was depicted to be advising his younger self to dive when there is a run-out chance after his infamous run-out in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in 2019.

Dhoni’s words to Boria Majumdar after the WC come to mind on seeing the effort. He had said, “I think I should have dived. Had I dived I would have made up the two inches and no way would I be out “You know what, I had never dived in my life. So when I was going for the second run the thought of the dive did come to my mind but then I had never dived. I felt I could make it. Just if I dived…”

Today, CSK were put in to bat by RR and they got off to a bad start yet again with Ruturaj Gaikwad holing out early for a third time in a row. Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu came up with brisk knocks to keep the scoreboard ticking. After Suresh Raina couldn’t capitalize a start, MS Dhoni walked out to bat much to the delight of CSK’s fans on social media.

MS Dhoni walked in to bat during the 14th over of CSK’s innings and began with a dot. Off the next over bowled by Rahul Tewatia, Dhoni pushed one through the off-side before setting off on a quick non-existent single. He was then rightly sent back by Ravindra Jadeja and the CSK skipper seemed to be in deep trouble as the throw came in to keeper Sanju Samson who dislodged the stumps.

However, Dhoni had produced a complete dive by then which saved him by a whisker. He was confident about his dive and assuredly got up before reassuring Jadeja that he had made it.
