Mumbai Indians

The defending champions, yet again, faced a defeat in their opening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. But, they bounced back in style as they defended a below-par total of 142 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Surya Kumar Yadav with his quickfire half-century and Rohit Sharma with his decent 43 runs were the only performers with the bat. Lack of contributions from the power hitters Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Keiron Pollard saw Mumbai Indians collapse once again in the death overs.

Defending such a low target, Mumbai Indians didn’t start well as Kolkata’s openers stitched a 72 run partnership. But, it was a Rahul Chahar show after that as he rolled over Kolkata’s top order and picked up a wicket each in every over. Kolkata were still ahead in the game as they needed 31 runs off 28 deliveries with Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell at the crease. Rohit Sharma’s brilliant captaincy and a perfect death bowling display by Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Trent Boult guided Mumbai to a 10 run victory over the Knight Riders.

Mumbai Indians’ only concern now is that the finishers are not performing up to the expectations. If they find their rhythm back Mumbai can easily score 180+ runs in almost every match. Rest, they look a balanced side and would continue with the same.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad are off to a poor start in the IPL 2021. They have lost both of their matches so far and that too from a commanding position.

Hyderabad restricted Royal Challengers Bangalore on just 149 in the last game. The bowlers executed their plans nicely and delivered. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to his name. Rashid Khan, as always, bowled economically and also got two crucial wickets.

Coming out to chase, SRH lost Saha cheaply, but David Warner and Manish Pandey stitched a decent partnership in the middle. Warner scored a solid half-century, but as soon as he departed the SRH started struggling. In the 17th over of Shahbaz Ahmed, they lost three wickets of Pandey, Bairstow, and Samad. All of them got out after playing some poor shots. With this, SRH saw themselves lose by six runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad need to sort out the middle order as quickly as possible. Lack of experienced and dependable batter has cost them both the matches.
