IPL 2021: Pragyan Ojha believes DC skipper Rishabh Pant can be future captain of team India
Pragyan Ojha and Rishabh Pant
Former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha feels that current Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has got all the necessary ingredients to lead the national side in coming years. The 23-year old took the captaincy role for his franchise in IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer got ruled out owing to a shoulder injury.
The Delhi-based franchise has so far done well in the 14th edition of the tournament with four wins in six matches. They are currently placed at the third spot in the Points Table below Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings.
“The way he has led his team. Somehow, I get a feeling that in the years to come, if Rishabh Pant bats the way he has been batting and shows this maturity, he can be the captain. He is showing that,” Ojha was quoted as saying in India Today.
‘He will develop under Ravi Shastri’: Ojha
Pragyan Ojha mentioned that even though he senses an aura of the potential leader of the team India, Pant still has a long journey to cover. He said that the southpaw is currently in the initial phase of his career and will develop under the guidance of head coach Ravi Shastri.
“When you talk about a player, the aura around him shows it. It makes me feel that this is the guy who can be the captain of the Indian team. That’s what I feel after reading about him after talking to people about him. This is the same aura that was created about Sourav Ganguly, created about MS Dhoni. So that is how it is. I feel he can. It’s still far away,” he stated.
“But right now, the way he is developing himself as a player and as a leader, that is something that the think tank should have a close look at. Under Ravi (Shastri) bhai, I think he will develop,” Ojha added.
