Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Rajasthan Royals by a slender margin of 4 runs to begin their IPL 2021 campaign on a winning note on Monday in one of the most high-scoring exciting encounters in the history of the Indian Premier League.
The Punjab Kings posted a gigantic 221-run total after being asked to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, thanks to KL Rahul‘s 91-run knock and Deepak Hooda‘s rampaging 28-ball 64.
RR captain Sanju Samson, playing his first match as a Skipper responded with a mesmerizing 119 off just 63 deliveries, but it was not enough to get his side over the line. The Royals were stranded on 217 runs as Samson fell short of a few yards in the last delivery.
Preity Zinta reacts to PBKS’ win
Following Punjab Kings’ decisive win, Preity Zinta, the team’s co-owner and Bollywood actress, congratulated the KL Rahul-led side on Twitter. PBKS continues to give “heart attacks” in the greatest league, despite a new name and a new jersey as quoted by Preity.
“What a game! We have a new name & a New Jersey, still, #saddapunjab won’t stop giving us heart attacks in a game. What to do? Not a perfect game for us but in the end it was PERFECT. Wow @klrahul11, @iamdeepakhooda & all the boys @PunjabKingsIPL,” tweeted Preity Zinta.
The Punjab Kings co-owner also praised opposition captain Sanju Samson for his outstanding performance.
KL Rahul also voiced out his views about the thriller game and mentioned that light-hearted people should not watch PBKS games.
“As a captain and as a player, I wouldn’t want to keep being part of such games. But Punjab Kings is not for the light-hearted, it was not the case last year and I do not think it will be this year as well. Fingers crossed, we will win some games comfortably. This was a great win and very important for us to start like this,” said Rahul.
