IPL 2021 Match 8 PBKS vs CSK: Preview
Punjab Kings
The Punjab Kings come into the game behind a narrow four-run win over the Rajasthan Royals. Batting first, PBKS put up a total of 221 runs.
After losing Mayank Agarwal early, KL Rahul and Chis Gayle started to build up the innings. But it was Deepak Hooda who became the talk of the town. Promoted at no.4, the all-rounder scored a brilliant 64 off just 28 deliveries which included five massive sixes. Rahul’s 91 was overshadowed by Hooda’s knock.
New acquisitions Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith displayed moments of brilliance with the ball, but they were costly overall conceding 104 runs off their eight overs combined.
Despite Sanju Samson’s valiant century, their Indian bowling options Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh bowled well enough to get them a victory.
Punjab Kings look well settled on the batting front, they have some loopholes in the bowling unit bur are expected to continue with the same lineup and give more chances to Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith and hoping to get the best out of them.
Chennai Super Kings
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men faced a seven-wicket defeat in the hands of the Delhi Capitals despite scoring 188. Their bowling unit looked completely clueless, with the DC opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw taking the game away.
Put into bat first Chennai lost both the openers Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad early in the innings, however contributions from Suresh Raina, who was making a comeback in the team along with contributions from Moeen Ali and Sam Curran helped CSK to reach a respectable total.
However, during the second innings their bowling department consisting of the likes of Deepak Chahar, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Jadeja, and Moeen Ali all seemed sloppy and went for big runs. DJ Bravo was the only bowler to survive Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan’s assault.
Chennai needs to sort out their issue of scoring slowly in the powerplay. With a deep batting lineup, they can start hitting from the initial stages and get maximum advantage of the powerplay.
It will be exciting to see how both the teams fair against each other and who comes out on top at the end.
