IPL 2021 Match 7 RR vs DC: Preview

RR vs PBKS
Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals

Opting to bowl first in the first game, Sanju Samson handed the new ball to the young Chetan Sakariya who conceded just 11 runs in his first spell including the wicket of Mayank Agarwal. That was the only highlight of the Royals bowling as an onslaught from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda guided Punjab Kings to a mammoth total of 221.

Chetan Sakariya was the pick of the bowlers for RR as he ended up with the figures of 4-31-3. In return, Sanju Samson played a valiant knock of 119 runs from just 63 deliveries and thus becoming the first player to score a century on captaincy debut. However, he fell short of few yards as he was caught at the ropes with five required off the last delivery.

Sanju Samson was the lone performer with the bat for the Royals. Buttler and Parag played small cameos but that was not sufficient enough to take RR over the line.

With Ben Stokes out of the remainder of the IPL due to a broken finger, David Miller or Liam Livingstone may replace him in the XI and Buttler would be back as an opener along with Manan Vohra.

The Royals will look to get their first win of the IPL 2021 tonight and Sakariya, who bowled exceptionally well would love to continue putting up similar performances. Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman will have a lot of responsibility on them to pick up early wickets.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals comfortably rolled over Chennai Super Kings in their first encounter. The Delhi Capitals bowled well to restrict the Chennai Super Kings to a below-par 188 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Avesh Khan and Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly and made full use of the initial movement available.

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan were in fine form and took the game completely away from the hands of the Super Kings with their mammoth 138 run partnership. They chased the target with eight balls left and cruised towards victory by seven wickets.

Skipper Rishabh Pant didn’t get to bat much but would be happy with the performance by the openers. The Capitals will continue with the same batting lineup and will look to put up a similar performance again.

In terms of team news, Anrich Nortje has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and will not be available for today’s clash while Kagiso Rabada is now available having completed his mandatory quarantine, he is most likely to replace Tom Curran

Today’s game will be an exciting contest between two young captains.
