IPL 2021: Ricky Ponting jokes that his wife would divorce him if he keeps the stubble

Ricky Ponting, Australia’s greatest captain, is the head coach of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Since he took over the helm three years ago, there has been a significant improvement in the team’s results. For the first time, Delhi reached the tournament’s final in 2020. The start of the fourteenth season was also exciting as they began the season by beating the three-time champion Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

In the absence of regular team captain Shreyas Iyer, the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been assigned the captaincy this season. Iyer will be out for two to three months due to a shoulder injury, for which he recently underwent surgery.

The Capitals’ head coach was lately seen in a video delivering a speech to his players. After the video was shared on Social media, users began comparing Ricky to the personality of Kabir Khan, a fictional character played by Shah Rukh Khan in the film Chak de India. The Bollywood actor played the part of a hockey team coach in that film, and he was seen boosting the morale of the team in his warm style.

The Capitals’ posted another video of Ponting with this comparison in the caption. “The only difference between @RickyPonting and Kabir Khan is that the latter had a stubble on Matchday,” it said. The Delhi coach disclosed in the video that his wife will possibly divorce him if she sees him with a stubble.

In the video, Ponting was asked that whether he would be keeping the stubble during the match to which Ponting replied funnily.

“No, I won’t. Because if I do, I think my wife will see me on television and she’ll probably divorce me [chuckled] if she sees that,” said Ponting.

Ponting further added that he follows a ritual to have a clean shave before every match and confirms that he won’t be growing stubble.

“I’ll be having a shave over the next couple of days. [I] make sure that when the game day comes around. It’s always a ritual of mine anyway. I’m not sure if you guys have noticed this but I am cleanly shaven the night before every game. So, on the night of the 9th (a night before the game), I’ll be having a shave for sure,” added Ricky.

Delhi Capitals will play their next game against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday, 15th April.
