Delhi Capitals (DC) lost a humdinger of a contest against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they fell short by a solitary run while chasing a total of 172 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was an AB de Villiers show that struck the Capitals as the South African took apart the bowling attack at the death by getting to 75 runs in just 42 balls to propel his score to the competitive total.

In the chase, DC skipper Rishabh Pant played the role of an anchor and received explosive support at the other end at the death from Shimron Hetmyer who came up with his best knock in the IPL. However, with six runs required off the last ball bowled by Mohammed Siraj, Pant could only manage a four as he dug out a wide-yorker to backward point. The win sent RCB top of the table.

Rishabh Pant spoke post-match about the defeat and said, “Obviously feeling disappointed, specially when you are on the losing side. They got 10-15 runs extra on this wicket. Hetmyer played a brilliant innings, because of him we got close to the target. In the last over we were thinking whoever gets strike has to finish the job. That’s what we were planning, missed by a run. It’s good to take positives from all the matches. As a young team, we like to learn from each game and improve each and every day.”

Mohammad Siraj who bowled the all-important final over said, “I backed my yorker at the death as it was coming out really well and I was able to execute it really well. I was single minded in executing the yorkers to Rishabh and Hetmyer and I thought if they hit a good shot, so be it. Obviously my confidence is high after playing Test cricket, My line and length has improved because of it and sharing the dressing room with Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah helped me immensely.”
