IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma fined Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate
Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined an amount of Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the side’s loss to Delhi Capitals (DC). The defending champions lost to last year’s runners-up yesterday by six wickets due to a batting collapse in the middle overs that saw them lose a flurry of wickets in succession to the wily leg-spin of the seasoned Amit Mishra.
Setting a modest target of 138, MI did well to contain the DC batsmen and take the match to the last over. But, Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith knew what they were doing as they patiently knocked down singles and doubles to take the side closer before Lalit Yadav and Shimron Hetmyer finished things off at the death. With the win, DC climbed to second while MI remained on the fourth spot.
IPL fines Rohit Sharma despite Kieron Pollard captaining
IPL fined Rohit Sharma today for maintaining a slow over-rate and released a statement saying, “Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
It is noteworthy here that Rohit Sharma had left the field during the 3rd over of the match due to a niggle that he suffered and it was vice-captain Kieron Pollard who led the side. However, the IPL rules state clearly that it is the captain who will be fined and hence, Rohit is the one to receive the same.
MI’s next match is against Punjab Kings on the 23rd of April.
