Mumbai Indians’ (MI) five-match winning streak over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was broken as they lost by six wickets today at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, MI got off to a bad start as they lost Quinton de Kock. However, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav kept the scoreboard ticking before their dismissals sparked a collapse.

DC’s hero was Amit Mishra who picked up four wickets on the night, removing the entire MI middle order. From a position of promise, MI managed only 137 runs and DC chased down the total in the last over. With the win, DC jumped to the second spot in the table as it was their third win. MI are currently in the 4th position with two wins out of four.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma spoke after the match and gave his verdict on MI’s loss saying, “After the start we got we should have batted better in the middle overs. It is happening time and again. We aren’t able to capitalize on our starts and we need to understand as a batting unit. But you have to give credit to the Delhi bowlers, they kept it tight and kept taking wickets.”

Speaking about the dew factor, he said, “We knew dew would come in but we have seen that it’s not all that difficult to grip the ball in the last few games. Dew isn’t the factor, we need to play smart cricket to win games which we didn’t do today.”

Rohit Sharma was off the field for almost the entirety of the second innings and speaking about it, he said, “It’s only a niggle. It should be fine.”

MI’s next match is against Punjab Kings on the 23rd of April.
