IPL 2021: “Hopefully we can kick on” – Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson react to RR’s win over SRH

Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinched victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi to climb to the fifth position on the table at the halfway mark of the league phases. For the Orange Army who began life under Kane Williamson on the other hand, it was the sixth loss in seven matches and their chances of making the playoffs look all but done now.
The hero for RR was opener Jos Buttler who struck a terrific century on a batting beauty of a wicket to get his side to a total of 220. He received excellent support from skipper Sanju Samson who missed out on a half-century. In the chase, SRH never got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They fell short in the end by a whopping margin of 55 runs.
Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson on RR’s win
Jos Buttler was awarded the Man of the Match award and speaking about the same, he said, “I think sometimes you have to swallow your ego when you’re not in perfect touch. You have to give yourself time and find your way. I tried to stay in and keep the belief that something will click. It’s a small ground. The more balls you face you can capitalise in the end. That’s been the theme of the IPL – players who are consistent have shown us. I pride myself on my performance for the team. We haven’t played our best cricket, hopefully for myself and the team we can kick on in the back half of the tournament.”
Captain Sanju Samson said, “It’s always a pleasure to bat with Jos. When Jos goes on, it’s always a good sight for us. I think it was a very clinical performance. We started well in the powerplay and just stuck to our plans. It can be a funny game and they have some hitters in their line-up. I think we haven’t won as many matches as we would have liked, but it can be funny in the IPL. One ball can change the result. It doesn’t matter if I am in form, I want to contribute in a better and dominant way and help my team.”
RR’s next match is against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the 5th of May.
