After starting the season with a loss, the Chennai Super Kings won their second game in a row on April 19, defeating Rajasthan Royals by 45 runs in match no. 12 of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The MS Dhoni-led Super Kings scored 188/9 after being put in to bat first. Most of the batsmen played cameos, from Faf du Plessis at the top to Bravo at the bottom of the order. After Gaikwad fell early, du Plessis got them off to a decent start, but the rest of the batsmen chipped in with valuable contributions during the innings.

The Royals appeared to be on course when chasing a 189-run target, but they lost their way after Jos Buttler got out. The Chennai bowlers, led by Moeen Ali, put on a masterful performance to hand the Royals their second defeat of the season.

CSK all-rounder Sam Curran, who took two wickets, said that the team has adjusted to the circumstances and won two games in a row after losing the first. Curran, speaking to the broadcasters after the game, said, “Very good to win! We started off badly against Delhi, we didn’t adjust to the conditions that well. But in the last games, we’ve adjusted. The way we’ve played with our long batting line-up, it’s given that freedom.”

Sam Curran also mentioned the wicket’s sluggishness, which he thought offered the Chennai team an edge while defending. The Super Kings are playing as good as they would at home in Chennai.

“I’ve actually never played for Chennai in Chennai, but from the chat in the group, the wicket’s been slow and suited us. Our whole middle order can bat anywhere, that gives you freedom. It’s good to be winning away from home. Jadeja’s fielding was exceptional,” added Curran.

On Wednesday, April 21, Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
