IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad announce full list of retentions; Fabian Allen and Billy Stanlake released

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided against chopping and changing their side ahead of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they chose to retain as many as 21 players. The franchise finished 3rd in the 2020 edition of the IPL which was held in the UAE as they recovered from a bad start to make their way up the table. They were defeated by eventual runners-up Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second qualifier.

Led by the ever-dependable David Warner and having two Australian icons in Tom Moody and Trevor Bayliss at the helm, the side will fancy its chances of winning their second IPL title. Their first win came in 2016 when they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final.

SRH announce list of retained players

The SRH franchise took to Twitter to announce their full list of retained players. It is noteworthy that the ‘Orange Army’ retained the maximum amount of players. Another noteworthy aspect in the retainees list was the fact that both Mitchell Marsh and Jason Holder featured. It was the latter who was signed as a replacement for the former after an injury in 2020.

The two overseas players who did not find a place in the retained players’ list were West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen and Australian pacer Billy Stanlake. Both players did not get much opportunities to prove themselves although the former proved to be a gun substitute fielder whenever called upon. Indian domestic talents, R Sanjay Yadav, Bavanaka Sandeep and Y Prithvi Raj were released as well. SRH will now aim at using the freed up purse to further bolster their line-up in order to challenge for the title.
