IPL 2021: Suryakumar Yadav reveals why an out-of-form Ishan Kishan was promoted at number three against Punjab Kings
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav
The struggle of defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) continued during their clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) as well. The Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a one-sided defeat by nine wickets in match 17 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
MI could only post 131/7 on the board at the end of their 20 overs in the first innings. However, they took a strange decision of promoting an out-of-form Ishan Kishan at number three ahead of Suryakumar Yadav who has batted well so far. The southpaw got out for a score of six while consuming 17 balls. On the other hand, Yadav played a steady knock of 33 runs in 27 deliveries. The latter shed light on management’s move during the post-match press conference.

“Ishan’s promotion was completely management’s call and we decided collectively that if a left-hander gets out then a left-hander walks in. He and I have been playing a similar role in the past few years. So, I was completely okay with it. We both decided we’ll do the same way what everyone decides and we were very clear in our plans very much,” Suryakumar Yadav said at the post-match press conference.
Things Will Be Completely Different In Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav
Rohit Sharma’s men will now go to Delhi from here as their matches in Chennai have come to an end. Suryakumar Yadav mentioned that the team doesn’t want to think about what has happened so far and they are hopeful of things getting better in Delhi.
“Talking about performances, I feel it’s all about that confidence that you carry and I feel everyone is hitting the ball well in the nets. Everyone is really positive in their mindset. It’s all about just going out there and expressing themselves.
“It’s just a matter of one game. We don’t want to think about what has happened in Chennai. When we reach Delhi, I think things will be completely different, and MI will be a completely different side,” the 30-year-old stated.
