IPL 2021 suspended: ‘Everyone panicked once the virus entered inside the bubble,’ says Shreevats Goswami
Shreevats Goswami
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batsman Shreevats Goswami said that none of the players had breached the coronavirus protocols inside the bio-bubble. His remarks came after the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was suspended when several players and support staff members from four franchises tested positive for COVID-19.
Goswami mentioned that everyone in the SRH camp, especially their foreign players panicked once the virus entered the bubble. So far, players like Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), SRH’s Wriddhiman Saha, and Amit Mishra from Delhi Capitals (DC) have been infected by the virus. Apart from them, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coaches Michael Hussey and L Balaji also tested COVID positive along with a bus cleaner.
“We were well taken care of inside the bubble. None of the players or support staff breached it. But once the virus entered, I will not deny, everyone panicked and the foreigners especially. You can’t really help it.
I know I am a sportsman with good immunity. God forbid, if I contract the virus, I would recover. But what if as an asymptomatic carrier, I give it to my aged parents…When the virus entered, most players were scared because you don’t want your family to get affected,” Goswami said.
‘The bubble was much tighter in the UAE’: Reports
A player who didn’t wish to disclose his name joined the many voices to reveal that the bio-bubble in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was much tighter than the one in India.
“Though teams and BCCI tried their best, the bubble was much tighter in the UAE. Here you could see people coming and going even though they were on different floors. I saw some use the pool also. Then practice facilities were also far away,” he told the news agency PTI.
