Two members who are a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have tested positive for COVID-19 today. Although none of the three are players, the two were in contact with the players. They include bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and one more member of the maintenance team.

This news comes just hours after the positive tests of Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to which today’s IPL match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been postponed. Now with further positive tests, it remains to be seen as to what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) do with regard to the conduct of the tournament.

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, apart from the three who tested positive, the rest of the squad have tested negative in the latest round of testing which took place on Sunday. The report read, “It is understood that Balaji and the member of the maintenance staff took a fresh test on Monday morning to rule out the possibility of a false positive. If they test positive again, they would need to spend 10 days in a designated isolation facility outside the team bubble and return two negative tests before re-entering.”

An official confirmation from the franchise as well as the IPL is awaited. The status of CSK’s next match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday is now in doubt.
