Chennai Super Kings (CSK) moved to the top of the table as they comprehensively defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) riding on an all-round performance from Ravindra Jadeja. It seemed to be going well for RCB during the middle overs of the first innings when there was a period of lull for the Men in Yellow. However, Jadeja smashed Harshal Patel for 37 runs in an over to take CSK to 191.

In the chase, RCB began well with Devdutt Padikkal flying off the blocks. After the pacers provided the breakthroughs, it was Jadeja again who ran through the middle order as he picked up three wickets. The southpaw also effected a direct-hit run-out to leave RCB reeling. In the end, all that the Virat Kohli-led team could manage was a score of 122 as they lost by 69 runs to slip to second on the points table.

Virat Kohli spoke post-match about the defeat and said, “You have to look at it the right way. It’s come at the right time for us. You have to understand the things that went wrong. I think this is positive feedback for our side. It’s good to get a performance like this out of the way early in the season. We were there most of the moments in the game, but the key ones we lost badly.”

Speaking about Ravindra Jadeja’s performance, he said, “Jaddu displaying his skills took the game away from us. You can probably say one guy beat us. We will continue to give him responsibility (Harshal) he got both the set batsmen out and plucked all the momentum away. We have to look at this in the right way. Brush it aside and learn from it.”

RCB’s next match is against Delhi Capitals on the 27th of April.
