IPL 2021: WATCH – Horrible mix-up results in Deepak Hooda’s run out

Punjab Kings (PBKS) began life in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 under Mayank Agarwal against Delhi Capitals (DC) today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With their regular captain KL Rahul ruled out of at least one week due to acute appendicitis that he suffered yesterday, Agarwal was named as the skipper today just about two hours before the game began.

PBKS were put in to bat with Agarwal who was injured in the previous match coming in for Rahul. DC named an unchanged line-up. PBKS did not get off to the best of starts as promising youngster Prabhsimran Singh did not come good yet again, falling cheaply to Kagiso Rabada. Chris Gayle then got into his element and started striking before he was dismissed off a surprising full toss by Rabada.

Mayank Agarwal and Dawid Malan who was coming in for Nicholas Pooran then rebuilt the innings with some patient batting. The Englishman then attempted to up the ante and fell to Axar Patel to bring Deepak Hooda to the crease. The No. 5 batsman however, fell early for just 1 run off 1 ball after a horrible mix-up with Agarwal that resulted in his run-out following some good fielding from DC.

Agarwal hit a delivery from Axar Patel straight to Shimron Hetmyer at cover and set off for a quick run. However, Hooda sent him back to which Agarwal did not respond and kept running. This resulted in both batsmen getting to the same end. DC then ran them out in both ends. The third-umpire had a look and deemed Hooda to be out.
