IPL 2021: WATCH – Sam Curran bowls Andre Russell around his legs
Andre Russell
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played out a high-scoring thriller yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Put in to bat first, CSK got off to an excellent start with both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis getting half-centuries. With the other batters contributing with cameos as well, the Men in Yellow got to an excellent score of 220 in the first innings.
In reply, KKR got off to a horror start as Deepak Chahar‘s four-wicket burst meant that they were reduced to 31/5. But little did CSK know, that the KKR party was just getting started. Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik combined with an all-out attack approach and had the CSK bowlers under immense pressure. The former got to his fifty in no-time and seemed to be near unbeatable.
Watch – Sam Curran castles Andre Russell
Just when it looked like it could be trouble for CSK, Sam Curran was brought into the attack and the Englishman delivered. From over the wicket to the right-hander, the left-arm pacer bowled a delivery to the leg-stump and Russell let it go thinking it would be a wide only for the ball to hit the top of leg-stump. Curran was elated while it was despair for Russell who had looked in such fine form.
It wasn’t all over however, as Pat Cummins kept the scoreboard ticking and gave CSK an almighty scare by hitting Curran for 30 runs in an over. In the end, the Aussie ran out of partners in the last over with 20 runs required. KKR ended on 202 all-out in 19.1 overs, a score that had looked near-impossible when the side was reeling, having lost 5 wickets in the Powerplay.
KKR’s next match is against Rajasthan Royals on the 24th of April.
