IPL 2021: “Wickets are trash” – Ben Stokes criticizes pitches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is in full flow at the moment with teams understanding their strengths and weaknesses. The points table is shaping up nicely with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pulling away. Sides like Rajasthan Royals (RR) have however, suffered from usual problems as they find themselves chasing the pack. The upcoming middle phases of the tournament would be crucial.
The tournament is being played in the caravan format and all matches so far have been played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While the former has produced high-scoring matches, the latter has had low-scoring ones. There has been a nice contrast in the way matches have been played in the two venues although there have been certain exceptions.
Ben Stokes unhappy with Chennai pitch
RR all-rounder Ben Stokes is not playing a part in this year’s IPL after an injury he suffered in the first match of the side’s season where he broke his finger. The Englishman has now left for home and is recovering after a surgery. Meanwhile, he is also posting his thoughts on the IPL matches by taking to Twitter.
He took to Twitter today to voice his thoughts on the pitches in this year’s IPL. He wrote, “Hope the wickets don’t get worse as the @IPL gets deeper into the tournament..160/170 minimum not scraping to 130/140 cause the wickets are trash.. (sic)”
This tweet has now gone viral and fans on social media have both agreed and disagreed with him. Those who have disagreed have stated that once in a while, low-scoring thrillers and good games for bowlers are necessary over just run-fests.
