The evolution of cricket has seen some of the most outrageous shots being played in the game. Players hitting sixes has become more prevalent. Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also been witness to some breath-taking sixes.

On that note, we look at 5 biggest sixes in the history of IPL:

IPL 2013: Chris Gayle (119 meters)

The list of biggest sixes is incomplete without featuring Chris Gayle in it. Such has been the impact he has had in T20 cricket over the years. Gayle holds the record for hitting the most number of sixes in Indian Premier League (IPL). He has hit 326 sixes in his IPL career. Besides, he also holds the record for hitting the fifth-longest six in the cash-rich league.

During his breath-taking knock of 175 runs off 66 balls, Gayle hit Ashok Dinda for a huge 119-metre six. It stood as the biggest six of that season.

IPL 2009: Yuvraj Singh (119 metres)

India’s one of the biggest match-winners, Yuvraj Singh features at number four in the list. He hit 119-metre long six over mid-wicket region to Albie Morkel. Yuvraj scored 58 runs off 36 balls in that match. Unfortunately, his team lost that game by 12 runs.

Striking at 115.64, Yuvraj Singh scored 340 runs in that season in 14 matches.

IPL 2010: Robin Uthappa (120 metres)

He isn’t a hard hitter of the ball and relies more on timing to hit sixes. Interestingly, he has hit the third-longest six in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In one of the matches against CSK in 2010 edition, Robin Uthappa smacked a 120-meter long six to Dwayne Bravo.

Uthappa has been a prolific run-scorer in IPL. In 177 matches, he aggregated 4411 runs at an average of 28.83.

IPL 2011: Adam Gilchrist – 122 meters

Australian cricketer, Adam Gilchrist hit the biggest six of the 2011 edition of IPL. He smacked RCB bowler, Charl Langeveldt, for a huge 122-meter six. He holds the record for the second biggest six in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Playing against RCB, Gilchrist lit stadium with some humungous sixes. He scored 106 runs off 55 balls, helping Punjab set a mammoth 232-run total in 20 overs.

IPL 2008: Albie Morkel (125 metres)

Albie Morkel

The South-African all-rounder is regarded as one of the cleanest hitters of the game. He made his debut for CSK in the 2008 edition and played six seasons for the franchise.

In the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Albie Morkel hit Pragyan Ojha for a massive 124-m six in the cow-corner area. The ball hit the roof and went out of the stadium. Morkel’s hit in 2008 edition still stands as the longest six being hit in the history of IPL.
