IPL: Chennai Super Kings’ brand value drops; Mumbai Indians becomes most valuable team

The Chennai Super Kings franchise had a season to forget in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020 as they finished outside the playoff spots for the first time ever in their history. With that, their achievement of being the only team to have never missed out on the playoffs came crashing down. The side was unable to come consistently good with both bat and ball as they struggled especially to finish off chases like they used to in the past.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand, had the smoothest of seasons as they finished top of the league stages before going on to win both the Qualifier 1 and the final to be crowned champions. The side looked near-impossible to beat and went in to each match as the favorites to win. They will once again be a force to reckon with in the 2021 edition of the IPL which is set to begin on the 9th of April.
IPL franchises’ brand values undergo changes

According to reports from Dainik Jagran, the brand value of IPL franchises have undergone changes after the 2020 edition. The most significant drop in value is that of CSK who have declined by 16.5 percent to be valued at 611 crore (in rupees) as opposed to 732 crore last year. Mumbai Indians on the other hand are the biggest gainers as their value grew by 5.9 percent and the side is now valued on top with 761 crore.
Other franchises’ brand value like those of Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab who failed to make it to the playoffs underwent declines as well.
IPL 2021 begins on April 9 with a match in Chennai between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
