There was a meeting between the IPL franchises and the IPL governing council on Wednesday regarding the rules and regulations of the upcoming IPL season. As per reliable reports, the franchises suggested the IPL governing council to put 2-year ban for overseas players who withdraw from the upcoming season without any valid reason after getting bought in the auction.

The franchises also suggested that it should be mandatory for the overseas players to take part in the mega auction and not just be part of the mini auction to fetch high prices.

Moreover, the star overseas players generally skip the mega auction and go for the mini auction. In the mini-auction, there is a competition to buy the player and hence there is a bidding war, which leads to the player getting bought for big amounts. Examples are Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore or USD 2.98 million approx) and Pat Cummins (INR 20.50 crore or USD 2.47 million approx), bought in IPL 2024 mini auction.

However, in the mega auction, the franchises can sign the star at a reasonable price and hence they have suggested the same to the IPL governing council.

IPL franchises have faced issue with overseas players withdrawing from the season

Many star overseas players like Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc have pulled out of the IPL after getting bought for high prices in the auction. This has put a lot of pressure on the franchises and destroyed the plans and strategies that they made in the auction for the IPL season.

The franchises are okay with the fact that the player is withdrawing due to international commitment, or if there is an injury to the player or some family emergency issues, which force the players to withdraw from the tournament. Franchises deal with troubles for finding a replacement of the player after he pulls out of the season.
