Ipswich Town and their captain Sam Morsy landed in some hot waters recently. Morsy’s decision not to wear Premier League’s rainbow armband supporting the LGBTQ movement became controversial. The Premier League and its clubs promote equality and diversity during the weekend’s fixtures as part of Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign.

Morsy who practices Islam, captained Ipswich in their defeat against Nottingham Forest. The 33-year-old British-born international was the only captain among the 20 to not wear the rainbow armband. However, Ipswich made it clear that they support Sam Morsy’s decision but were committed fully to being an inclusive club.

Ipswich Town Football Club is committed to being a fully inclusive club that welcomes everyone. We proudly support the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces campaign and stand with the LGBTQ+ community in promoting equality and acceptance. At the same time, we respect the decision of our captain Sam Morsy, who has chosen not to wear the rainbow captain’s armband due to his religious beliefs. We will continue to grow an environment where all are valued and respected, both on and off the pitch.

It has been quite a roller-coaster ride for Ipswich Town in recent times as they have conjured mixed-bag results. After a defeat against Brentford, Ipswich drew against Leicester City while beating heavyweights, Tottenham Hotspur.

The following game saw Ipswich holding back Manchester United as Omari Hutchinson’s strike repealed Marcus Rashford’s early goal. In their latest game, however, they tumbled against Nottingham Forest along with the armband controversy.

The youngster threatened with his attacking capabilities against Manchester United. At times, he came close to scoring a goal. Ipswich Town needs consistency to win the relegation battle. Even if relgation becomes a possibility, McKenna felt Delap can go all the way in the sport.

The style of player that Liam is as well. I won’t say he’s unique because there are a few more in the Premier League at the moment as well, physical center forwards, but maybe over the last five or six years in the Premier League they haven’t been falling off the trees. I think people are enjoying watching him play. We’re enjoying working with him. He’s still got lots to do and lots to come. He’s still learning. We still have to be patient with him.

Kieran McKenna said in the pre-match presser of Ipswich Town’s clash against Crystal Palace

Alongside the Wolves and Southampton, Ipswich stays in the bottom three with nine points from 13 games. However, they have a chance to keep the other parties close to the relegation zone on their toes if they can secure a win against Crystal Palace. This is especially because the latter haven’t been off to a flyer of a start in the tournament either.
