Emma Raducanu is a British professional tennis player with a career-high ranking of world no. 19 by the WTA. She is currently the number 1 British female player and is also the reigning US Open champion. She made her WTA Tour debut in June 2021.
At the US Open two months later, Raducanu became the first singles qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam title, beating Leylah Fernandez in the final.
Raducanu has become a massive name in tennis despite her young age of only 19 years. She holds the record for the fewest majors played before winning a title. Her performance at the US Open in September thrilled the viewers and the lovers of the sport and suddenly her name was everywhere.
But not everything has been going well for the British sportswoman. She recently grabbed the headlines for a whole different reason.
Covid positive- Will Emma Raducanu play in the Australian Open 2022?
The US Open champion Emma Raducanu has tested positive for COVID-19 and withdrew from the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
“I was very much looking forward to playing in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately after testing positive for Covid-19, I will have to postpone until the next opportunity,” said Raducanu who is in isolation.
“I’m isolating as per rules and hopefully will be able to get back on court soon.”
Raducanu is due to travel to Australia after Christmas in preparation for next year’s first Grand Slam of 2022 which begins on January 17. Her covid scare is expected not to cause any disturbances to her planned schedule in her next big tournament but she failed to attend the BBC Sportsperson of the year award ceremony after she won the award.
“Whatever needs to be done to be able to play the Australian Open, I’ll do, To me, it is not even a thought or a battle in mind – I just want to be at the Australian Open and I want to compete there. What it takes to do, I’ll go.” said the 19-year-old.
Fans are expecting big performances from the British player after she showed what she was capable of in the US Open 2021.
