Boxing is ripe with rumors, running turmoil, sass, and brass to polish. Now, boxer Gervonta Davis adds to the worries. “Tank” Davis took to Instagram to announce the cancellation of his March 1st fight with Lamont Roach. Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) did not give a reason for the scrapping of the scrap.
Just minutes after Tank Davis’ cancellation post, Lamont Roach posted a workout video clip on IG. Which suggests he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This could mean that Davis acted alone without telling anyone. It has gotten many to wonder – is Floyd Mayweather‘s former top crop pulling a fast one? Or is he actually retiring without keeping anyone in loop?
The fans on the social media sites have welcomed the cancellation with joy. They don’t want to see this albatross on their backs, especially as it will be on PPV. They see it as a mismatch in which the light-hearted, super-featherweight Roach (25-1, 10 KOs) does not stand a chance. However, Gervonta Davis has fuel to spare in his tank. So despite his nonchalance, no one wants to see Tank go so early.
Consensus legend Mike Tyson loses to a YouTuber and owes money for it. Then he goes on a mushroom cloud bender saying he doesn’t remember even fighting him. Tyson Fury wishes a new year after hard-hitting decision losses. Boxing WAGs even make the headline with other notorieties. Boxing is truly the face of rumors, viral snippets, and other wonders. But Davis and his tease have opened a can of worms nobody likes. At least he has some other fights to look to if he chooses not to quit.
Papa Bill Haney aims at ‘Tank’ fight for son’s comeback
Fans have high expectations of Davis now that he is in his 11th year as a pro. He’s 30, and it’s a big step down from fighting Ryan Garcia in 2023. Lamont Roach isn’t it. He’s a super featherweight with no real KO power. He barely eked past and landed on one of Tank’s knockout victims, Hector Garcia, in November 2023 to win his WBA 130-lb title.

The Baltimore slugger currently holds the WBA Super Featherweight title, demonstrating his dominance across three weight divisions. So who does Gervonta Davis get? Ask Bill Haney – the self-proclaimed Papa Smurf of the current face of boxing.
We not taking sh*t. …Tank Davis when he finished with Lamont Roach. How about that?
Bill Haney to Knockoutboxing86 TV
Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) hasn’t been active since his fadeout to Garcia in April at the Barclays Center. “KingRy” rocked him thrice to the ground, with official digits of 115-109, 114-110, and 112-112. It cost Haney his WBC blimp which he plans to get back to. But enemy (not so much) of enemy Gervonta Davis is a prime option as well.
Davis and Garcia have given each other the nod to square up again. So this could be just to generate a revenge and sweep the option from Ryan. The fight would be seen as a cash-in for Haney, 26. He is coming off a loss. He may have to drop to 135 or a catchweight of 137.
Haney could reinvent himself using his massive size for the division. As he did before the move to 140 in 2023. Keyshawn Davis, a massive 135 with a welterweight [147] frame, gets away with melting down to lightweight. So could the “Dream”. Will Tank accept or is he really retiring for good? Keep the tabs open for more on that.
