The future of Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks is looking very bleak. The drama surrounding his exit from the club began in the offseason last year when the front office decided to waive Damian Lillard.
While Antetokounmpo remained with the Bucks, the noise only grew louder at the trade deadline. Despite their star player staying at the club, the Bucks had an underwhelming 2025-26 campaign. They finished at 11th place with a 32-50 record and did not even qualify for the postseason.
American television host and NBA insider Brandon Robinson revealed that the Greek superstar would consider staying long-term with the Miami Heat if he were traded there.
Currently, from folks that I’ve spoken with around the league, Giannis is leaning towards the Miami Heat. Portland was a conversation, I can tell you. And at one point, Orlando and Milwaukee were having a conversation potentially about swapping Paolo as well as Giannis.

There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo will go down as the greatest player in Bucks history. He delivered the franchise their first title in 50 years in 2021 and was named the Finals MVP. He won several accolades during his 13-year spell with the franchise.
The relationship between the player and the club has also taken a hit, and Antetokounmpo has sent mixed signals throughout the season. The Bucks are open to trading away their franchise player, but will be looking to bag a hefty package for him.
There will be several suitors for the ‘Greek Freak’, however, it looks like he may be interested in joining the Heat. Various clubs have been linked to the two-time MVP, but the rumors to the Heat have been hot for a while now.
Miami Heat may be the ideal place for Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Miami Heat are regarded and praised for their culture. A player like Giannis Antetokounmpo would fit in perfectly in that culture and can even turn the tables for the franchise for the next few years.
Just like the 31-year-old, even the Heat had a difficult 2025-26 campaign. They finished in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings and were beaten by the Charlotte Hornets in their first Play-In Game. With both of them missing the playoffs this year, it seems like Antetokounmpo joining the Heat would be a win-win situation for both.
It has been 13 years since the Heat last lifted a championship. They have made it to three NBA Finals since, with their last one coming in 2023. They have failed to make it past the first round in the last three years.
Sixteen years ago, LeBron James came to Miami. It changed his career. It may be a bit different for Antetokounmpo as he already has a championship to his name, but it may be the right move for him at this stage of his career.
The New York Knicks might be in play for Giannis Antetokounmpo
During the offseason last year, it was reported that Giannis Antetokounmpo requested a trade. It was also reported that the forward would like to join the New York Knicks. While no move materialized, the Knicks remained linked to him.

However, things may now be different with the Knicks making their way into the NBA Finals. NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed that the NBA Finals will have some implications on whether the Knicks make a move for Antetokounmpo or not.
I think this is the closest he’s come to saying he wants to be moved without saying he wants to be moved. I think signs are pointing to that…. This game (finals) is going to have some implications as well. If the Knicks were to falter to the Spurs, they might be in play for Giannis.

The Knicks are currently in a strong position in the NBA Finals. They have recorded two consecutive road wins and lead 2-0 in the series, with Games 3 and 4 set to take place in New York.
