Harrison Butker’s recent commencement address at the Benedictine College ruffled a lot of feathers. He has come under fire over his controversial takes on abortion, the COVID protocols imposed by the government, and the latest antisemitism bill passed by President Biden. However, the most controversial take that emerged was concerning women.

Harrison Butker deemed women as best suited for being homemakers and nothing more. He cited the example of his wife Isabelle, who gave up a lucrative career to have kids and be a homemaker. In response to this, Allison Kuch, the wife of free agent NFL defensive end Isaac Rochell posted a TikTok wherein she highlighted the struggles that come with being the wife of an NFL player.

She shared her own struggles after Rochell was drafted into the league.

My husband got drafted into the NFL, people stopped asking me what I do for a living. The second he got the phone call to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers was the second I became Isaac Rochell's wife. The last seven years, I have worked my a** off, not only to chase my dreams and to be successful but also to make a name for myself so that I'm not just somebody's wife.
Allison Kuch said

Her perspective is that once a woman is married to an NFL player, they lose their individuality and society begins to view them as nothing more than the wife of the athlete.

She went on to make it clear that she loves Isaac Rochell and is happy to be his wife but the one thing that she takes objection to is people solely basing her entire identity off of her marriage to him. Kuch made a compelling point as she brought attention to the infamous WAG (Wives and Girlfriends) tag that is given to women involved with NFL players.

I have made it a priority to make sure that I am following my own dreams as well. My life didn't start when I married my husband. It started when I was born. I've been working my a** off every second since...I hope that my platform shows that if you're a woman, you're a girl, honestly...you can do whatever you want, put your mind to it and work towards it.
Allison Kuch added

She firmly believes that just because she is married to an NFL player, there is no reason for her to give up on her dreams. Allison Kuch shared how she has continued to struggle and work hard on her career to make a name for herself and to succeed as an individual. She then proceeded to take a clear jab at Harrison Butker.

Last thing, can you imagine sitting at your college graduation after working your a** off for four years and someone telling you that none of that really mattered because the best thing you're going to be is a homemaker.
Allison Kuch concluded

The placekicker for the Kansas City Chiefs sent the message that the women in the graduating class must be looking forward to settling down and having children rather than the promotions and titles they will get in their careers.

He went as far as to term their aspirations as being “diabolical lies” in his speech. While speaking about his wife, Isabelle, Butker revealed that despite her dream of having a career of her own not coming to fruition, she is much happier being a homemaker and mother. Allison Kuch is just one of many women enraged over his comments on the role of women in modern society. Shortly after, a petition to get Butker dismissed from the Chiefs garnered traction and was widely circulated. As of now, the team has yet to make any official comments on his statements.
