Ishan Kishan last played for India in November 2023. He took a long break citing mental fatigue and came back to competitive cricket after nearly four months when he took to the field during the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

After a 34-ball 69 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kishan opened up about the contract snub for the first time. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the central contract because they did not feature for their respective teams in domestic cricket.

So after the match against RCB, when Kishan was asked about whether he would get the chance to feature in the squad for the T20 World Cup, the Jharkhand-born cricketer said he has no control over these things. And on taking the break, he said he made the best use of the time.

I was practicing [during the break]. When you take a break, people gossip about it a lot, they say a lot of things on social media. But I feel it's important to understand not everything is in the players' hands. We can only make the best use of the break. This is what adopting a good mindset is.

Ishan Kishan says Hardik Pandya is enjoying the crowd’s jeers

Hardik Pandya has been at the receiving end of fans’ criticism after becoming the captain of Mumbai Indians. He reportedly asked the MI bosses to make him the captain to move back to his old franchise from GT via a cash trade.

And since then, fans, it seems, have taken a dislike to him. At every stadium where MI play, the crowd boos the all-rounder. Ishan Kishan thinks Pandya is enjoying the challenge of allaying the crowd’s anger now.

He [Hardik] loves challenges, he has been in this situation before, and he is in that situation right now. He is not someone who will come out and talk about it and say let's stop this or that. I know he must be enjoying it. I know him personally.

Meanwhile, in the MI versus RCB match, the latter posted 196/8 which MI chased down within 16 overs to win by seven wickets. MI will next lock horns with Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings.
