Islam Makhachev calls out Rafael Dos Anjos to fight: “let’s finish our business in July.”
Former UFC lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos wasn’t impressed with the performance of rising lightweight contender, Islam Makhachev. Makhachev returned to the octagon at UFC 259 in the main card. The Dagestani picked up an impressive victory against Drew Dober. Islam submitted Drew Dober in Las Vegas last Sunday.
That win helped Makhachev become one of the most impressive contenders in the lightweight division. But the former champion, dos Anjos wasn’t impressed with the hype around him. Rafael took out his frustration in the comment section of an ESPNMMA post praising Makhchev.
Former two-division champ, Daniel Cormier called Makhachev, “the most dangerous guy in the division.” In reply to that, “Did he just beat a top contender?” dos Anjos wrote. “[Beneil Dariush] beat Dober and nobody says crap. Stop this hype.”
The long-time friend and training partner of Khabib Nurmagomedov seemed to have paid attention to dos Anjos’ comments and has taken them personally. The Dagestani contender tweeted out his reply regarding the comments.
Will Islam and Dos Anjos fight finally?
In reply to dos Anjos’ comments, Islam wrote on Twitter. “Hey if you don’t like all this hype around me, let’s finish our business in July.” Islam also made sure he tagged Rafael Dos Anjos to make himself heard.
The feud has not come up out of the blue. Both the fighters have had a history in the past at the UFC. Islam Makhachev and Rafael dos Anjos were previously scheduled to fight at UFC 254 last October. But the fight was canceled due to the Dagestani contracting an injury.
With tension building between both the fighters, there is a possibility the fight might be rescheduled. Rafael is coming off a win against Paul Felder.
