Before losing his middleweight title, Israel Adesanya was regarded as one of the best champions in the modern UFC era. The fighter successfully defended the middleweight championship five times against elite contenders, solidifying his legacy as a dominant titleholder. He was an extremely active champion, always ready to compete and face whoever the UFC placed in front of him.
His title journey began in Melbourne, Australia, where he spectacularly captured the middleweight belt. Izzy fought fan favorite Robert Whittaker and won the fight via KO, stunning the energetic and passionate Australian home crowd. In a recent interview with UFC legend Chuck Liddell, Adesanya revisited that unforgettable night and also spoke about his iconic entrance.
To do this and then go out there and do what I did. I still look at it and I’m like, ’That was crazy’. I don’t know if I would do it again. Still to this day, 57,000 people in that stadium.

Izzy is well known for being a showman, and this started at this event and fans loved everything about the fight. Adesanya’s dance routine at UFC 243 is widely considered one of the greatest walkouts in MMA history. He choreographed the entrance with his friends, blending anime, hip-hop, and charisma to captivate fans before the fight even began.

The event, UFC 243, broke records with a live gate of over $5.4 million at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. It also had attendance of 57,127 fans, proving Adesanya’s star power and the hype surrounding his middleweight title unification bout. After winning the bout, Izzy went on to defend it against top fighters like Marvin Vettori, Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, and Jared Cannonier.
He was part of one of UFC’s fiercest rivalries against former kickboxing foe Alex Pereira, creating massive pay-per-view interest worldwide. Both fighters secured a win over each other, building intense anticipation and drama that made their bouts legendary among fans and analysts alike. Since that rivalry ended, Adesanya has noticeably struggled to maintain consistency and dominance at the top of the division.
Israel Adesanya is eager to get back inside the octagon
Last year, Israel Adesanya had a golden opportunity to reclaim his middleweight title against Dricus Du Plessis but ultimately failed. Despite winning via submission, Du Plessis admitted that it was the toughest and most competitive fight of his entire career. Adesanya then faced rising contender Nassourdine Imavov and suffered another devastating defeat, this time losing by a brutal TKO finish.

With back-to-back losses piling up, fans have started doubting Adesanya’s ability to make a successful comeback in the future. However, the ‘Last Sylebender’ is desperate to get back in. As such, in a recent interview, he talked about the same.
I sparred with Kamaru [Usman] in Miami when Volk [Alexander Volkanovski] got his belt back. And that was my first sparring back. I took some time out to just, you know, chill and let the brain relax. And yeah, I just knew straight away. So I’ve been itchy for a while, bro. I’m ready to go!

Adesanya recently went viral after intense training sessions with David Goggins, showcasing top physical shape and renewed mental toughness. Despite frequent losses, Adesanya seems more motivated than ever and determined to silence critics by staging a powerful comeback performance soon.
The Last Stylebender publicly called out former rival Sean Strickland for a fight, but the ‘Tarzan’ is suspended at the moment. At the moment, he will have to wait for Strickland, who has not shown any interest for a rematch. If not, the Nigerian-Kiwi fighter has the option to rematch old rival Paulo Costa to get his mojo back.
