Israel Adesanya will move up to 205 pounds for his next fight to challenge reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. UFC president Dana White announced the surprising news on Saturday with Adesanya expected to leave middleweight for at least one fight as he attempts to become a two-division champion.

It was a surprising decision, yet one that seems primed to propel Israel into superstardom, and potentially sweeten the pot even more for a Jon Jones fight down the line.

Opening Odds Revealed For Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz

Adesanya never competing at light heavyweight in the UFC previously, odds makers still have a feeling that “The Last Stylebender” will add another title to his resume after he opened as a heavy favorite for the upcoming fight against Blachowicz. According to Sportsbetting.com, Adesanya opened as more than a 2-to-1 favorite to beat Blachowicz

Those odds won’t be anything new for Blachowicz, who has found himself in this same position in the past.

After Jon Jones vacated his light heavyweight belt, the now 27-8 Blachowicz stepped in and stopped Dominick Reyes to capture the vacant title this past September. Adesanya would be Jan’s first title defense.

Date for this title fight is not decided yet, fight will take place but with the UFC’s scheduled booked through the end of the year in 2021.
