“F*ck them kids”- Israel Adesanya believes trying to be a role model pushed Jon Jones over the edge

Jon Jones- Israel Adesanya

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya knows a thing or two about fame and more about how to handle it. Adesanya is on the top of the fight game as well as fight business. Having defended his UFC title a record 4 times, Adesanya is the #2 fighter in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, only behind his fellow Nigerian countryman Kamaru Usman. Adesanya last fought at UFC 271 when he edged the preceding middleweight champion Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision.

Adesanya, who is managed by Paradigm Sports, the same management agency for UFC megastar Conor McGregor, also sealed a lucrative deal with the UFC that has made him one of the top paid athletes of the premier mixed-martial-arts company. Adesanya is now expected to defend his title against #3 ranked Jared Cannonier, who is coming off a spectacular TKO victory over Derek Brunson under the same fight card as Adesanya’s last fight.

In one of many interviews he is giving out these days, Adesanya talks about the importance of not letting people’s praise eat you in pressure and how former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones collapsed under that pressure that led to Jones downfall in life outside the Octagon.

“This is a trap that a guy like Jon Jones fell into,” says Adesanya “Because he was always like the pastor son. He was always like, you know, after the fight ‘I wanna thank Jesus, you know, I was sponsored by Nike and you know all kids you know I want to be someone kids look up to I want to be a good role model’ right, alright. F**k them, kids. F**k all that sh*t, you know what I mean?… Bro people try to say “you know my kid looks up to you’ I’m like raise your own damn kids. Raise your own damn kids, you know what I mean like.” concluded Adesanya.

What do you make of Adesanya’s comments about Jones’ downfall and his way of looking at and assessing the intensity of praise fans pour on their role models sometimes? Who do you think wins between Adesanya and his upcoming opponent Jared Cannonier? Also, who do you think Jones will return against in his heavyweight debut?
