Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will be taking on Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, in a title bout that will see Adesanya move up to the light heavyweight division for the very first time. According to UFC President Dana White, the fight has been scheduled on the 6th of March, 2021 at UFC 259. The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

Taking to Twitter, Okamoto tweeted saying that Dana White talking to him, all but confirmed that the fight will be for the 205 title, at UFC 259.

Champ vs Champ!

“It’ll be Champ vs. Champ at UFC 259 on March 6. Israel Adesanya (@stylebender) vs. Jan Blachowicz (@JanBlachowicz) for the 205 title, per Dana White. What happens in this one?“, Brett Okamoto tweeted.

Israel Adesanya’s move to the light heavyweight division comes in the wake of the Nigerian, conquering the middleweight division thoroughly; which saw him beat the likes of Anderson Silva, Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, previously unbeaten Paulo Costa. He is currently unbeaten in his 20 fights as a mixed martial artist. But the question now is that – Will the Nigerian-born-New Zealander recreate the same heroics in the new division?

Jan Blachowicz, on the other hand, has had an unbelievable 2020; starting off with a first round KO over Corey Anderson, Blachowicz found himself fighting for the title against Dominick Reyes, as Jon Jones had vacated his title as he moved up to the heavyweight division. Blachowicz grabbed the opportunity with both hands, as he devastated Dominick Reyes, to win the light heavyweight title.
