Israel Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman reveals that Adesanya wouldn’t be putting on weight or muscle ahead of his light-heavyweight title fight against Jan Blachowicz

The much awaited Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz light-heavyweight title fight, is just a month away. Israel Adesanya – the king of middleweight will be making his light-heavyweight debut at UFC 259, against the powerful Super-Pole. Just like Adesanya’s nemesis, Jon Jones, the combat sports community were tipping Adesanya to pack a lot of muscle, for his move to the 205lbs division. However, his coach Eugene Bareman, has put an end to all those rumors, stating that the ‘Last Stylebender’ would not be putting on weight or adding muscle.
Speaking in an interview with 1 News, Eugene Bareman revealed that Adesanya will never be stronger than Blachowicz, irrespective of the weight he puts on or the muscle he packs. He instead stated that they would use the time (of putting on extra weight) to improve on the technical side of the fight.
‘We’ve decided to come in at our normal, walk-around weight’ – Eugene Bareman
Bareman was quoted as saying, “We’re not putting on weight. The science of putting on weight and moving up in weight isn’t going to be a factor in this fight because we’ve decided to come in at our normal, walk-around weight. [via BJPenn.com]
He continued, “We’re hoping it gives us the advantages we need to win the fight rather than stack on muscle. I don’t think, with any amount of time or any amount of weight that Israel could put on, I don’t think he’s ever going to be stronger than Jan so we’ve decided, ‘Let’s try not to get stronger than Jan, let’s use that time to better-suited endeavors.’” [via BJPenn.com]
Israel Adesanya is coming off a dominant victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 253, thereby successfully defending his middleweight title and establishing his kingship in the middleweight division. His opponent, Jan Blachowicz, on the other hand, is on a four match win streak, and is coming off a dominant victory over Dominick Reyes, which saw him clinch the light-heavyweight title – a match which epitomized the Pole’s incredible power.
Will not putting on extra weight or muscle be a disadvantage for Israel Adesanya?
