ISSF Junior World Cup: Saurabh-Esha add another gold for India

India continued to be among the medals on the second competition day of the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.

The 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team of Saurabh Chaudhary and Esha Singh added another gold to the three won yesterday as India consolidated their position on top of the medals tally.

10m Air Pistol Mixed Team

It was yet another India vs India contest in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed gold medal match, continuing on from the theme set yesterday. Saurabh Chaudhary and Esha Singh missed out on qualifying for their individual finals but made no mistakes in the Mixed event as they went on to defeat the team of individual medalists Sarabjot Singh and Palak 16-12 in the gold medal match.

Both Indian teams did well in qualifications; India 2 comprised of Sarabjot (290-8x) and Palak (288-12x) topped with an overall score of 578-20x while India 1 (575-11x) with Saurabh (293-9x) and Esha (282-2x) were the second to qualify for the gold match.

France and Georgia won the two bronze medals on offer for this event under the new format.

In the 2019 edition of the Junior World Cup, Esha had won bronze in this event partnering with Gaurav Rana.

10m Air Rifle Mixed Team

The Indian team of Paarth Makhija and Ramita had to be content with silver after losing 13-17 to Poland’s Julia Ewa Piotrowska and Wikto Sajdak.

The Indians had qualified in first place with Paarth scoring 314.1 and yesterday’s individual silver medalist Ramita scoring 313.9 for a combined score of 628. The Polish team scored 626.6 in comparison.

Both the bronze medals on offer went to France.

The other Indian team of Arya Borse and individual gold medalist Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil failed to qualify for the medal rounds after finishing in 16th place with a total score of 620.9

Back in 2019, two Indian teams comprised of Shreya Agrawal and Yash Vardhan alongside Mehuli Ghosh and Hriday Hazarika had won silver and bronze respectively in this event.

Women’s Trap

India’s Sabeera Haris missed out on qualifying for the medal round by the narrowest of margins.

Sabeera had qualified for the final stage in 3rd place with a score of 115. In the final stage, she came back into the match after a shaky start to tie with 2nd place Italian competitor Marika Patera only to lose to the latter in a shoot-off.

Olympian Selin Ali of Bulgaria won the gold, Australia’s Kiara Dean won silver and American Sydney Marie Krieger won bronze.

India had no finalist in this event back in 2019.

Men’s Trap

No Indian could qualify for the final stages of this event. Arya Vansh Tyagi and Vivaan Kapoor narrowly missed out after being placed 9th and 10th with a score of 118. Shardul Vihan was 12th with 117, Shapath Bharadwaj was 17th with 115 while Bakhtyaruddin Malek was 32nd with 110.

Gold was won by Marco Corbo of Australia, silver by Lance Patrick Thompson of USA and bronze by Hussein Daruich of Brazil.

India similarly had no finalists in this event in 2019.

India is still on top of the medals tally with 10 medals including 4 golds and 6 silvers. Australia is 2nd with a gold and silver while France is 3rd with a gold and 3 bronzes.
