“It happens very often that my words are being twisted,” Novak Djokovic on the rumours reported in the media

Novak Djokovic clarified on Wednesday, that his decision to join back the ATP Players Council, was because he was nominated by the players to do so. He lashed out at the media that reports false rumours about him, and decision to join back the ATP Council. He said that his words are often twisted by the media and use for their own benefits.
“It happens very often that my words are being twisted, just like in the last two days. Some people were saying that is hypocritical of me to maybe be back at the Council along with being one of the founders of PTPA. It was not my intention to be back on the Council,” said Djokovic.
Earlier on Wednesday, Novak Djokovic, co-founder of Professional Tennis Players Association(PTPA) alongside Vasek Pospisil caused a lot of controversy as they announced their decision to join back the ATP Council. However, he was taken aback later in the day, after the ATP announced new rules for membership, which prohibited any player from being a member of any organization apart from the ATP.
We were practically kicked out of the ATP Council before: Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic was critical of the players and the association, for forcing them out of the ATP Players council in August, when him and Pospisil announced the formation of the PTPA. The Serbian said that even though he tried to explain the council the main aim of the PTPA, and that it will not collide with the interests of ATP, it was paid no heed and they were forced to resign from the ATP Council.
“Back in August the players demanded from both Pospisil and me to resign. I was saying back then and I am saying it now – I do not see a conflict there. I have tried to explain that to people, but there are certain groups that do not want to understand,” said the Serbian. However the Serbian said that they accepted the invitation to join back the ATP Players council because it was an honour for them, and shows that the players trust them. (Djokovic and Pospisil).
“We accepted it (membership for the ATP) with pleasure, it is an honour for us, and it says something that we were being nominated again after we were practically kicked out before. It means that we have done a good job and that many players trust us,” said Djokovic. The Serbian also went ahead and spoke about the new rule which ATP introduced regarding membership, and how it makes co-operation between the PTPA and ATP almost impossible.
“Up until last night I wanted to collaborate with ATP as one of the PTPA cofounders, but by promoting the new rule by which you cannot be a member of the Council and any other organization within the tennis system simultaneously, hey have sent a clear message what they think about all of it. So again ATP went against desires of the large group of players that nominated Vasek Pospisil and me. It is not us who have applied, like it has been reported in the media, remarked the Serbian.
