‘It was a good performance but he could have made easier work of it’ – Dillian Whyte reacts to Anthony Joshua’s 9th round KO win over Kubrat Pulev
Anthony Joshua successfully defended his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles against Kubrat Pulev at the Wembley Arena in London. The towering Brit, knocked out the Bulgarian in the ninth round, after dominating all the preceding rounds. The win all but sealed his fight against the one and only ‘Gypsy King’, Tyson Fury.
Heavyweight boxer, Dillian Whyte was one among the 1000 present at the Wembley Arena. Speaking in an interview, Dillian Whyte was all praise for his former rival, but he felt that Anthony Joshua was trapped between two different styles during his fight.
“What got him the victory was going back to the old him and being aggressive” – Dillian Whyte
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dillian Whyte said, “It was a strange performance. Don’t get me wrong, he did well. He got the job done. But strange because he was like he was trapped between two different styles. What got him the victory was going back to the old him and being aggressive. It was a good performance but he could have made easier work of it. He let Pulev hang around longer than he needed to.
He further stated, “Pulev is a very tough man. I was surprised he got up – but then Joshua let him back into the fight in rounds four, five and six. He was having success at mid to close range but kept going to long range for no reason. I didn’t understand. Maybe he just wanted to show something different. With the Fury fight, maybe he wanted to show a different side to his game.”
What are your thoughts on this? Was AJ not his usual marauding self yesterday? Do you agree with Dillian Whyte?
