The UFC Strawweight champion Weili Zhang fought with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248’s co-main event. At the end of 5 rounds, Zhang won the fight by the unanimous decision of judges but these two fighters produced a spectacular show for the fight fans around the world.
The fight was so brutal that after these both of the fighters have been admitted to hospital. UFC also named the fight between Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk as Fight of the Year. After this honor, Zhang shared her feelings, in her latest interview with BJ.Penn, Zhang says,
“It was an honor to share the Octagon with Joanna and have the battle that we did, I have seen the fight many times now, too many to count. Not just because I watched it myself, but because it has been played over and over throughout the world.”
“I’m happy that many people enjoyed the battle and I look forward to returning to the Octagon soon. I knew Joanna, and I were in a very exciting battle even before the actual fighting started, but as the fight progressed it was very evident that this was an epic fight because she brought out the best in me, which I believe I did to her as well.”
Weili Zhang is being booked to face Carla Esparza next
The UFC Strawweight champion Weili Zhang is on a five-fight win streak in UFC and an overall win streak of 20 fights. Now she is being booked to face Carla Esparza in her fight in 2021.
Esparza is on number 4 in the women’s strawweight rankings and is on a 4 fight win streak in which her recent win came against Marina Rodriguez in July 2020. Although Rose Namajunas is also in the line for a title shot, now let’s see who will be Weili Zhang facing next.
