It was different: Derek Fisher on Rajon Rondo’ move to LA Lakers
There is no doubt that apart from Lebron James and Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo had a big role to play for the Los Angeles Lakers in winning the 2019-20 championship. After achieving so much with the Boston Celtics, Rondo declining was captured by the Lakers, who wanted to get the best out him again. Rondo particularly did not do well in the regular season of 2019-20. But he brought out his ‘playoff Rondo’ side to play at least 20-22 minutes in each game to ease pressure from the shoulder of James and Davis.
Like Rajon Rondo, Derek Fisher was also a Celtics star, the former felt happy when Rondo got the recognition he deserved. Rondo left Celtics in 2015 and played for several teams but lacked his major gameplay. Given that Celtics and Lakers have been arch rivals. The move felt weird.
Rajon Rondo to Los Angeles Lakers
Similar to Rondo, Fisher was always an underrated player. So when he saw Rondo get the recognition he deserves after the Lakers title win, it made Fisher happy.
He said, “I think it was a great moment for a player like Rondo. Everybody for a long time has believed that you have to have these amazing stats to be considered a championship-caliber player.
“I know from my experience, you can make positive contributions to a team without being a guy that jumps off the stat sheet, and I think Rondo who on a lot of nights has good stats, I just think this championship continues to reinforce the value that he brings to his teams because of his I.Q., unselfishness and competitive spirit.”
The best part was Rondo turned up for the Lakers when no one expected him. From crucial assists to clutch point from behind the arc. Rondo became the second player to ever win the championship for both, the Lakers and the Celtics. But after a successful season, he may be on his way out now. He will decline his player option for the upcoming season and will enter Free Agency. The Lakers can still bring him back, and they should not let him walk away.
