Johanna Konta, British tennis star has her eyes set on Tokyo Olympics, 2021. The top ranked British player has been dealing with a knee injury, which had cut short her 2020 season, in addition to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Brit played just 17 matches on the WTA tour this year, losing 9 of them. She also failed to qualify for a WTA final for the first time after 2015. However, in spite of her poor form and injuries, she is determined to do well at the Olympics next year at Tokyo, which was postponed from this year due to the pandemic.

“I mean first of all I want to be part of the Olympics. It would just mean so much to me to be part of Team GB,” said Konta. The Brit had been a part of the Rio Olympics 2016 and stated that she would be privileged if she gets another chance. Being part of Team GB in Rio was a massive pinnacle in any athlete’s life. To be able to do that twice, 100% I’d love to be there,” the British tennis star added.

I would definitely consider playing Doubles: Konta

Johanna Konta stated that she would love to represent her country at the Olympics, playing the singles. But, she does not rule out the option of playing the Doubles event. “Obviously, I’d love to play singles. I mean I would definitely consider doubles,” said Konta.

She also hoped that her British compatriot, Heather Watson would qualify for the Olympic singles event is she has not already. “Hopefully Heather has also qualified for that or will be close to qualifying, who knows whoever can have a really good year and qualify,” she added.
