Novak Djokovic, the top seed at Italian Open 2020 will be up against the tournament’s surprising semifinalist Casper Ruud on Sunday in order to book a place in the final at Rome. After Nadal’s shock exit in the last 8 on Saturday, Novak Djokovic is the clear favourite to claim his 5th title at Rome.

After his disappointment at the US Open (in which he was defaulted from the 4th round), Novak Djokovic has made a good comeback on clay at the Italian Open 2020. Djokovic, the top seed received a bye in the 1st round, defeated S.Caruso in straight sets in the 2nd round, he aslso defeated fellow Serbian Filip Krajinovic in the 2nd round before defeating Dominik Koepfer in a tough three-set match in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Except the 2nd set which he dropped against Koepfer in the quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic is looking in solid form this tournament and is now the favourite to lift the trophy after Rafael Nadal’s shock exit.
Casper Ruud has had a long and tremendous week in Rome so far. He reached his first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal on Saturday and set up a semifinal clash with Novak Djokovic. Casper Ruud defeated the 11th seeded Karen Kachenov in the 1st round, Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets in the 2nd round, then defeating the one-time Grandslam champion Marin Cilic in the 3rd round before getting past the 4th seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini in a tough three-set match on Saturday.

Despite Casper Ruud’s amazing form and a few giant killings on his route to the last 4, Djokovic should be able to beat the 21-year-old Casper Ruud and end his dream run at Rome. Djokovic should book a place in the final where his opponent will be the winner of the other semifinal between Denis Shapovalov and Diego Schwartzman.
