Two countrymates will battle it out when World No.1 Novak Djokovic faces compatriot Filip Krajinovic in a Round of 16 encounter at the Italian Open 2020. Both players have looked in imperious form in Rome and it sets for an exciting clash between the duo.

Talking about the performance in the tournament so far, Djokovic, after getting a bye in the first round, he breezed past local favourite Salvatore Caruso 6-3, 6-2 in the next round. It seems as if the 33-year old has forgotten what all happened with him at the US Open.
On the other hand, Krajinovic stunned 16th-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the opening round by defeating the Canadian in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. In the Round of 32, the 28-year old Serb, like Djokovic, bamboozled another Italian in the form of Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 6-1 to set up a date with his dear friend in the third round.

It is interesting to note that having been on the Tour since so long, both the players have faced each other only once before clashing in Rome. That meeting came a decade ago in 2010 in their hometown in Belgrade in which Krajinovic emerged victorious. The younger of the Serbs was leading 6-4 in a quarterfinal match before Djokovic retired midway through the contest. Therefore, Krajinovic leads the head-to+head record 1-0.

Though they are good friends, all the friendship will be kept aside when the two athletes meet each other on the court. Despite looking in good form, it will be even difficult for Krajinovic to pull off a set, let alone the prospects of winning the contest.
